In 2022, WIS partnered with Macmillan Publishers to inaugurate the Bedford/St. Martin’s WIS Fellows Program. It was founded to make the symposium more inviting and more accessible to early career writers and writing educators, including undergraduate and graduate students as well as NTT faculty.

Each year, prior to the symposium B/SM WIS Fellows are matched with mentors, and after the fact each cohort is invited to write for the Bits Blog. In addition, off-campus fellows planning to attend onsite are awarded up to $500 to defray the cost of room, board, and travel. Information about how to apply is included in the symposium CFP, which circulates each fall.

The B/SM WIS Fellows Program was made possible by the time, attention, and care of Laura Davidson and Joy Fisher Williams as well as WIS SC stalwart Darci Thoune. It continues thanks to Jessica Yood as well as Nancy Tran, Laura Arcari, Michael Garcia, and Simi Dutt at Macmillan.
